Ben is Head of Social Policy at Demos. He leads Demos’ public service reform programme, heading up its Future Public Services Taskforce. He recently published Liberated Public Services: A new vision for citizens, professionals and policy makers.
He also maintains an interest in economic policy and works on Demos’ Unlocking Inheritance programme, designing policy responses to tackle inherited inequality.
During his time at Demos, Ben has authored reports on a wide range of economic and social policy areas, including personal and business taxation, regional growth, devolution and power, the future of work, housing and planning, social security and social care.
He is a LabourList columnist and his research and writing has been covered leading national media outlets including the BBC, The Guardian, The Independent, The Telegraph and The Times.
Prior to joining Demos, he worked as a policy advisor on the civil service fast stream in HMRC, the Department for Transport and the Ministry of Justice. He has also worked in Parliament for a Labour MP.
He studied Politics, Philosophy and Economics at the University of Manchester, where he won the Norman Geras prize for political theory.
