Following on from the pan-European project, Nothing to Fear but Fear Itself?, Demos is partnering with American academic Matthew MacWilliams, Visiting Research Associate at the University of Massachusetts, to explore authoritarianism in Great Britain, capturing its influence on social and economic attitudes, its role in the Brexit vote, and its consequences for political leaders.
Demos and MacWilliams are investigating:
- The percentage of Britons pre-disposed to authoritarianism;
- Their voting behaviour in the European Referendum;
- Their support for political parties; and
- Their attitudes to social and economic liberalism.
The analysis will be published in Spring 2017, with other countries to follow.
