This report examines one of the most critical touchpoints in British democracy: the relationship between MPs and the people they represent. The paradox is stark: MPs are busier than ever responding to constituents, yet most people still feel unheard, unseen and unrepresented. We argue that current modes of engagement are unintentionally optimised for polarisation rather than representation, amplifying only the loudest or most desperate voices.

Drawing on interviews with MPs, constituency staff and focus groups with citizens, the report diagnoses why the system is faltering and proposes a practical new model for engagement. Grounded in principles of inclusivity, participation, reciprocity, accountability, and pragmatism, this model seeks to repair the democratic relationship from the ground up – reducing polarisation and rebuilding trust in politics.
