Jamie Hancock
Researcher (Digital Policy)
Jamie is a Researcher in the Digital Policy team at Demos. Jamie’s work explores the intersection of technology policy, human rights, democratic processes, social conditions, and emerging technologies like AI. In his research, Jamie combines experience in social science, data science, and digital investigations to find answers to critical questions: how can we ensure technologies are used in ways which are democratic, fair, and just? What can we do to support the most vulnerable in today’s rapidly changing technological environment?
Prior to joining Demos, Jamie conducted research for academic organisations and non-profits with a focus on topics such as: the impacts of technologies on precarious work; border surveillance systems; and techniques for conducting human rights investigations using data. He holds an MSc in Political Sociology from the London School of Economics and an MA in Human, Social, and Political Sciences from the University of Cambridge. His graduate research examined the politics involved in uses of digital open-source investigations and Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) by human rights practitioners and journalists.
