Elsbeth Johnson
Former Trustee
Elsbeth Johnson is a former Demos Trustee.
She has previously worked in investment banking, in business and in government. She spent five years as an investment banker at BZW/Barclays Capital, advising on pan-European corporate and project finance, before working on Labour’s 1997 General Election campaign and later becoming a Special Adviser to the first Blair Government in 1998. There, she advised three different Departments of State on political strategy and implementation, including public sector organisational change.
Returning to the City after the 2001 Election, she became an equity analyst in a No.1-ranked research team at Deutsche Bank.
She covered a range of stocks, including Prudential, who subsequently offered her a senior strategy role and, in 2003, Elsbeth moved to Hong Kong to become Director of Customer & Market Strategy for their Asian business. She was responsible for developing customer and market strategies in sixteen retail businesses across twelve countries, and for building local capabilities to implement them. She held this role for nearly six years.
Elsbeth holds a first degree in Law from Queens’ College, Cambridge, a postgraduate in Economics from Birkbeck College, London and professional qualifications in corporate finance. She lives in London.
