Public Services 2030 Network – Launch event: Only We Can Save The State
12 Jun 2024 - 12 Jun 2024
5:00 pm - 6:15 pm GMTDEMOS, 15 WHITEHALL LONDON SW1A 2DD
Far from the corridors of power in Westminster, a revolution has been taking place in councils and frontline charities across the country. In doing so, the contours of a new paradigm for public services has been sketched.
The London Borough of Barking and Dagenham is just one of those trailblazers. Facing a host of social and economic challenges, the council has sought over the last decade to transform the way it delivers public services. The aim of these changes has been to deliver a new relationship between the citizen and council.
We are delighted to be joined by Chris Naylor, former Chief Executive of Barking & Dagenham Council, to discuss these changes and what can be learned from them at a local and national level.
Chris will be discussing a new essay published by Demos, Only We Can Save The State, which describes his time reforming public services and lessons for national policy makers at a time of political flux.
Speakers:
- Chris Naylor, former Chief Executive of Barking and Dagenham Council, now a Director at Inner Circle Consulting.
- Marc Stears, Director of UCL Policy Lab and author of England, Seven Myths that Changed a Country
- Abby Innes, Associate Professor of Political Economy in the European Institute at the LSE and author of Late Soviet Britain: Why Materialist Utopias Fail.
- Ben Glover, Head of Social Policy – Demos (event chair)
More speakers to be announced.
