A more equal digital society – in conversation with Alex Davies Jones

13 Sep 2023 - 13 Sep 2023

7:00 pm - 8:00 pm GMT
Location:

DEMOS | 15 WHITEHALL | LONDON SW1A 2DD

The development of new digital technologies continues to accelerate, opening up new frontiers in innovation, productivity and growth, as well as offering the potential to improve healthcare and public service delivery: the recent AI boom in particular opening up new possibilities at exponential speed.

But the path to a more equal digital society is not straightforward. Digital exclusion persists; online harms abound; while the ways that technologies are developed and deployed risk threatening jobs, eroding privacy, and deepening inequalities; while our increasing reliance on data comes with a carbon cost. The benefits and risks of technological development are not equally distributed, and not everyone has a voice in shaping the future of tech.

This event will seek to answer the question: how can we build a more equal digital society in Britain?

Speakers:

  • Polly Curtis, Chief Executive, Demos (Chair)
  • Alex Davies-Jones MP, Shadow Minister for Tech, Gambling, and the Digital Economy

Doors will open at 18:45 with the panel beginning at 19:00.
