Demos Digital (formerly CASM) is Demos’ digital policy research hub. We are responsible for Demos’ strategic pillar on Trustworthy Technology – working to shape a future in which technological development and governance is aligned with the needs and values of the public. Our vision is a future in which technological advances serve and respect the needs of all people rather than just a select few.
Recent Demos Digital projects include:
- Open Horizons: Exploring nuanced technical and policy approaches to openness in AI
- Driving Disinformation: Democratic deficits, disinformation and low traffic neighbourhoods – a portrait of policy failure
- Generative AI and Democracy: Impacts and Interventions
- GB Cloud: Building the UK’s Compute Capacity
Embedded in the UK’s leading crossparty political think tank Demos, Demos Digital has a unique advantage. We benefit from a combination of world recognised digital policy expertise and some of the country’s most prominent social policy thinkers. Our policy insights benefit as a result. We employ a holistic approach to considering both technological and societal factors, and aim our policy research and influencing efforts at informing real-world policymaking to improve people’s lives.
Demos Digital works dynamically and collaboratively across Demos as a whole to guide relevant digital policy discourse as it pertains to all four of Demos’ strategic pillars: Trustworthy Technology, Collaborative Democracy, Public Service Reform, and Citizens’ Economy.
Emerging technology touches everything. It’s in our schools, homes, healthcare, and transportation. The decisions we make about these technologies will therefore carry weighty implications for the future of our democracy, public well-being, and inclusive economic growth. We work to put people at the heart of digital policy.
