Meet the Commissioners: Martin Lewis OBE

“The past few months have been unbelievably challenging for our country on every level, and have seen changes in our society we wouldn’t have thought possible. It’s crucial that the conversation on what happens after the coronavirus crisis involves the people who are living with these changes, and isn’t limited to politicians and policymakers.  That’s why I’m working with Demos to start a national conversation about the way our lives have changed and how we feel about it.  We need as many people as possible to tell us what’s important to you, so that when the time comes to rebuild our society, we can make sure it’s one that’s better for everyone.”

Martin Lewis OBE, Money Saving Expert, is the journalist and consumer campaigner who created and is now the site’s Executive Chair. Martin also founded and chairs the Money and Mental Health Policy Institute charity.

He’s the UK’s most-googled man, Citizens Advice’s Consumer Champion of the Year, and has spearheaded major financial justice campaigns including bank charges reclaiming (over seven million template letters downloaded), PPI reclaiming (over six million) and a successful large-scale campaign to get financial education in schools. He has his own prime-time ITV programme, The Martin Lewis Money Show, as well as a range of other regular media slots. He was appointed OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in June 2014.
