Britain’s information environment is becoming more vulnerable, putting the health of our democracy at increasing risk. Eighteen months on from Demos’ first Epistemic Security 2029 paper, this report examines how the UK’s information supply chain has changed, the new threats and vulnerabilities emerging in 2026, and the opportunities to build greater resilience.
It argues that the scale of the democratic emergency demands more than incremental action: the next government must take bold, coordinated cross-departmental action to secure our information supply chains, confront unaccountable corporate power and foreign dependencies, revitalise trusted news and local information, and update regulation for the digital age.
The report sets out a blueprint for a new government to act quickly and decisively, strengthening Britain’s information environment and building the democratic resilience we need for the years ahead.
