Trusting the demos: Does the public always know best?

Who know best, the experts or the people? We will be joined by Sir Menzies Campbell MP and Baroness Falkner to discuss this question of democracy.

How far do people understand their own interests? And what is the balance between politicians listening and leading on big public debates? These are the dilemmas behind a range of policy debates, from whether people can be trusted with their own pensions, to how best to address public anxiety over immigration. Who know best, the experts or the people?

Speakers will include:

Sir Menzies Campbell MP
Baroness Falkner
Jodie Ginsberg, Chief Executive, Index on Censorship
Jonathan Birdwell, Head of Citizenship and Political Participation, Demos (Chair)

This event will take place on Sunday 5th October at 13.00 – 14.30 in the Monet Suite, Campanile Hotel, 10 Tunnel St. Glasgow, Lanarkshire G3 8HL. Please click here for a map.
