Trusting the demos: Does the public always know best?

Who know best, the experts or the people? We will be joined by David Lammy MP to explore this all important question of democracy.

How far do people understand their own interests? And what is the balance between politicians listening and leading on big public debates? These are the dilemmas behind a range of policy debates, from whether people can be trusted with their own pensions, to how best to address public anxiety over immigration. Who know best, the experts or the people?

Speaker will include:

David Lammy MP
John McTernan, Columnist and political strategist
Kathryn Perera, Chief Executive, Movement for Change
Joe Twyman, Head of Political and Social Political Research (EMEA), YouGov
Philip Collins, Demos and the Times (Chair)
