This evening reception saw the launch of a piece of research undertaken by Demos, in partnership with the Charity Retail Association. This report looks at the social value of charity shops, following on from our research in 2013, which provided the first comprehensive assessment of the social value of charity retail.
The report, based on research undertaken over 2016 and 2017, presents an updated analysis of the social value created by charity shops – for their parent charities, employees, volunteers, customers, communities and the environment. In addition we also present new evidence on the demographic profile of shoppers and donors; public attitudes to charity shops; job satisfaction among charity shop managers, and a detailed analysis of the employability benefits of volunteering in charity retail.
This evening reception saw speeches from representatives of Carnegie UK, the Charity Retail Association and Demos, as well as Peter Dowd MP.
A canapé and drinks networking followed these speeches.
