Rethinking Incapacity

As part of an ongoing research project exploring the way in which unemployed disabled people are assessed and supported, Demos are hosting a breakfast forum to discuss disability employment and incapacity assessment in the light of the Work, Health and Disability Green Paper. The event is the last in a series hosted by Demos and Ben Baumberg at the University of Kent, exploring the concept of incapacity as it relates to employability.

The session will bring together around 30 national and local policy makers, experts and thought leaders to think constructively about ways to assess and support unemployed disabled people, and debate alternatives to the government’s current approach that resonate with the Green Paper’s vision.

The discussion will be held under Chatham House rule, but will help inform a final report launched in early 2017 exploring public and other stakeholder perceptions of the concept of “incapacity”, how it relates to “employability”, and how the Government might better marry the two in a reformed assessment and support regime.
