Protecting Britain’s vulnerable from financial fraud

Labour Party Conference Fringe Event

A private, invite-only, roundtable to discuss how government and local authorities can continue to counteract the ever-changing ways unscrupulous individuals target the more vulnerable members of society. With access to personal financial services increasingly moving online, there has never been a time when so many marginalised people are at acute risk of exploitation. Sadly, fraudsters can and do target the vulnerable; they exploit their circumstances for financial gain by opening new bank accounts, taking out loans, setting up and spending on credit cards or committing to expensive mobile phone contracts.

What can local authorities and central government do to ensure these people are protected? Can the tools and innovations that already exist be put to more effective use, or do we need to find new solutions to help ensure those at risk are protected from abuse.
