Older People’s Housing

Demos is holding two high level roundtables to discuss the potential policy options for older people’s housing.

Demos and URS Infrastructure & Environment UK Limited have been commissioned by the Housing Minister, Kris Hopkins to explore the issues facing the provision of older people’s housing in England and help to develop housing policy options specific to older people.

For decades, there have not been enough homes to meet the needs of our growing and ageing population. The number of households in England is projected to increase 10 per cent from 2011 to 2021, but the highest increase is projected to be for households headed by someone between 55 and 64 years old. As life expectancy increases, more people will need support to remain in their homes in later life – or will need adapted or specialist housing to suit their changing needs.

We are holding two, high level roundtables to discuss the potential policy options and inform the research.

Roundtable #1: Tuesday 10th June, 9am
The first event will bring together a select number of experts and senior business partners to look specifically at policy options designed to help older people live independently for longer in a home of their choice.

Roundtable #2: Tuesday 17th June, 9am
The second event will bring together a select number of experts and senior business partners to look specifically at policy options designed to improve the provision of housing older people want and n‎eed.

Please note these events are invitation only. However, if you would like to register an interest in attending please contact [email protected] or call 0207 367 6331.
