Not in my backyard! How can planning balance local and national interests?

Demos will be joined by Hilary Benn MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government to explore Nimbyism and public policy.

This event will explore Nimbyism and public policy. It is often assumed that local residents will naturally oppose large building projects in their areas. But is this always true? What is the view based on? Do political representatives always understand their local communities?
