Going it alone: Is self-employment the future of work?

Sir Menzies Campbell MP joins Demos to discuss self employment. This panel discussion will follow on from a current Demos and IPSE project – Going it Alone which investigates the social, economic and political implications of the growth of self-employment.

More people than ever now class themselves as freelancers in the UK economy. On current trends, the self-employed will soon outnumber the public sector workforce. The project aims to explore the implications of this shift in working life in Britain and seeks to understand the challenges faced by freelancers in the modern economy.

Speakers will include:

Sir Menzies Campbell MP
Lucy Hurds, PPC for Hereford and South Herefordshire
Simon McVicker, Director of Policy & External Relations, IPSE
Duncan O’Leary, Research Director, Demos
Tom Clark, Leader writer, the Guardian (Chair)

This event will take place on Monday 6th October at 18.15 – 19.45 Room 6, Campanile Hotel, 10 Tunnel St. Glasgow, Lanarkshire G3 8HL. Please see here for a map.
