Convened in 2015, the Conservative Workers and Trade Unionists (CWTU) seeks to reach out to all workers and trade unionists across Britain. Whilst Labour moves further away from it’s working class blue-collar communities than ever, CWTU aims to make sure those communities are represented by the Conservative party.

In its first 12 months, the CWTU has made outstanding inroads – developing a core strategic plan, forming strong regional links, building dialogue with non-affiliated trade unions, and delivering events at the Conservative Party Conference 2016. Demos, which is committed to leading cross-party social and economic research, first supported this project in 2012, when we published Rob Halfon MP’s Stop the Union Bashing paper. We are delighted to partner with the CWTU in this event to take this work further.

The event will also place particular emphasis on supporting the dignity and security of good quality jobs, and the opportunities the Brexit vote might present for social and economic reform.
