Social Capital and the Material World
Last week, I spoke at a summit on Conservation Education convened by the Textile Conservation Centre. I presented the interim thinking from our project, Saved for the Nation.I've put the speech and the presentation I gave on the website. They outline one of the ideas we are developing in the project, which is about the symbolism of caring for the material world, and what it means in relation to wider agenda, from identity and communities, to building cultural literacy.

A new race Cold War?
You would be forgiven for thinking that I'm talking about the fallout from the Beijing Olympics torch relay, but in fact I am referring to a speech being delivered today by Trevor Philips to mark the 40th anniversary of Enoch Powell's 'Rivers of Blood' speech. The aim of this project is to make a documentary demonstrating your thoughts, views and opinions on the world that we live in.
muslimyouth.net will run a workshop in March, which will be attended by a diverse range of young Muslims from different cultural and ethnical backgrounds. The workshop will give you an opportunity to discuss issues that are facing you: whether its gun/gang crime, litter in your local areas or global warming.

Simon Jenkins wrote an article in Good Friday's Guardian in which he made the case that 'the dazzling walls of medieval England deserve a bold restorer'.
