Maryem joined Demos in September 2009 as a full-time intern, working on a security research project called "On the edge of violence?".

She completed an MSc in Democracy and Democratisation at University College London and holds a BA in Politics and Development studies from the University of Sussex. She has conducted research on the compatibility of Islam and democracy, and she is interested in the broader relationship between religion and politics. She is also interested in democratisation and education issues in Morocco.
