Sylvia is a Media and Communications Intern

Sylvia joined Demos as a part-time media and communications intern in June 2009.

Sylvia is a journalist originally from Hong Kong. She reported on news in the former British colony, Macau and southern China for The Standard newspaper and The Associated Press in Hong Kong, and her work has been published in The Washington Post, the International Herald Tribune, Forbes and The Guardian among others. After completing a Masters in International Relations she wanted to try something different, and landed at Demos. She currently also spends her time working as a freelance news editor and writer.

Sylvia is interested in the UN, Asia and foreign policy, in particular regarding human rights and their relationship with state sovereignty. Her Masters thesis focused on China's reaction to international human rights pressure about its relationship to oppressive regimes like those in Sudan and Myanmar.

Sylvia holds a First Class Honours BA in English from Oxford University and a Distinction in MSc International Relations from LSE. She speaks Cantonese and Mandarin.
