This idea has been more popular in some places than others, but to date it hasn't got me very excited. However, it is interesting that their aim to build a network of many such 'no frills' private schools is already being achieved by GEMS (Global Education Management Systems). Their ability to save money by pooling all administrative and backhaul functions centrally not only foreshadows part of the typology in our Disorganisation pamphlet but also offers a critique of the way state schools are run. Certainly, this approach is far from exclusive to the private sector ' Demos benefited hugely from locating with other charities in the Mezzanine and now there is an open source approach to helping all schools share in such tools
