Launch of a new Demos report on adult learning, The Skills Paradox.
Britain is facing a vicious cycle in skills. High skill levels are worth more in labour markets than ever before. Yet millions in the UK still lack even basic working skills, and the people most likely to take part in training schemes are those who are already well-qualified. The Skills Paradox argues that we need a coherent new skills strategy to reverse this trend and overcome the barriers which people face in gaining access to training skills.
David Willetts MP, David Lammy MP, and Don Macdonald of St Mungo's, and Andrew Sich of City and Guilds will debate the policy recommendations of the report in a discussion chaired by Demos’ Director Richard Reeves.
