- Date and time:
- Saturday, 14th June 2008 at 11:15am
- Location:
- Institute of Education, 20 Bedford Way, London WC1H 0AL
Jon Cruddas - MP for Dagenham
Baroness Helena Kennedy QC
Patrick Diamond - Director of Policy and Strategy, CEHR
Paul Skidmore - McConnell Fellow at Princeton University, Demos associates
Catherine Fieschi - Director, Demos (Chair)
Demos will be hosting a session at the Compass National Conference 2008.
The event will explore the relationship between equality and the empowerment and engagement of a country's citizens - both in terms of their participation at the ballot box, and of their ability to shape the institutions which govern their everyday lives. Recently research by Demos suggests that countries with high levels of citizen participation are also the most effective in alleviating inequality through government intervention. The object of Demos' Compass event is to debate the nature of this relationship, and to explore its implications for both policy-makers and concerned citizens.
