Demos is delighted to host an event with world-renowned thinker Manuel Castells, to discuss the ideas in his new book, 'Communication Power', and his new theory of power for the information age.
The book argues that the revolution in communication technologies has changed the way people feel, think, and behave and profoundly modified power relationships. It explores a wide range of political and social movements – from the global environmental movement, to the control of information in China and Russia and internet-based political campaigns – arguing that power now lies in the hands of those who can manipulate these new forms of communication.
Professor Castells will be in conversation with Geoff Mulgan of the Young Foundation, followed by a half-hour Q&A. We hope you can join us for this fascinating discussion between two of the foremost thinkers on networks and communication.
The event will take place from 6.00pm for a 6.30pm start and run to 7.30pm on Wednesday 8 July, at the Institute of Engineering and Technology, 2 Savoy Place, London, WC2R 0BL. We'd be grateful if you could arrive at least 15 minutes early to allow for a prompt start.
