is this what is known as a 60s 'happening'?

A Happening? Naw... looks far too organised for the '60s. This is pure undiluted 00's Twitcherism. Technology in search of usage - with a bit of fun thrown in on the side.
Almost worth going to london for... :-)

flash mobs? excuse me?
-300ish people who have an overly meaningful relationship with their computer 'spontaneously' turn up to a highly organised non-event so that they can go away again a bit later -er... whats the point of that then? and anyway 'flash mob' hanging around outside a sofa store is not really
being a mob like behaviour and so far as I can tell no-ones actually flashing - I haven't been so disappointed by a name since I discovered the Black Dyke band were a bunch of tuba players from Yorkshire.
Here are the instructions...
(1) At some point during the day on Thursday August 7th
synchronise your watch by using the speaking clock or
the following website :-
http://www.britishsummertime.com/ or
http://www.timeticker.com/main.htm
(2) by 6:17pm based on your star sign you should have already located
yourselves in the following bars and/or pubs. Buy a drink, act casual
and don't stare too much at the Fruit machine!
Aries, Libra, Taurus, Scorpio.
Fitzrovia Pub, 18 Goodge St, keep an eye on the Fruit Machine.
(Corner of Goodge St and Whitfield St, W1)
Gemini, Sagittarius, Cancer, Capricorn.
Carpenters Arms, 68 Whitfield St, look out for the Fruit Machine.
(Corner of Howland St and Whitfield St, W1)
Leo, Aquarius, Virgo, Pisces.
Rising Sun, 46 Tottenham Court Road, W1, do we need to tell you
about the Fruit Machine thing by now?
(Corner of Tottenham Court Road and Windmill St)
(3) At about this time a MOB rep will make themselves known, appear
and
pass out further instructions. Read the instructions carefully and
then
hide the piece of paper about your person so that it can not be seen.
(4) The instructions will provide the destination of the MOB site,
and you
should arrive there no earlier than 6:30pm and no later than 6:30pm.
If you are early, stall, if you are late hurry! although no one will
need to rush.
(4) The instructions will contain everything you need to know. Most
importantly the time to leave the MOB site by is 6:40pm. The
dispersal is
just as important to the success of this MOB as is the arrival.
Everyone
should leave as quickly and orderly as they can and truly disperse.
(5) After the Flash MOB, carry on with your lives as per normal, await
instructions for Flash MOB #2
(6) At all times remember that a MOB is just fun.
