The resurgence of cities in the last ten years, the falling price of technology and the twin forces of the internet and digitisation of music are doing crazy things to the music world. Take The Arctic Monkeys for example. This article in The Guardian explains how, with only one limited edition 7' under their belt, they recently rocked up in London to play in-front of 2,000 people at the Astoria.
